You pictured this differently. Maybe you thought you’d feel more ready, more grateful, more… something. Instead you’re exhausted in a way that sleep doesn’t fix. You’re snapping at people you love. You’re lying awake at 3am running through worst-case scenarios. Or you feel strangely numb, disconnected from a baby everyone keeps telling you to cherish.

None of that means you’re failing. It means you’re human, and this is genuinely hard. Harder than anyone prepares you for.

At Beyond the Bump Counseling, I offer specialized perinatal therapy for individuals and partners navigating the emotional reality of pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. This isn’t generic talk therapy with a pregnancy twist. It’s focused, specific support for exactly what you’re going through, provided virtually to anyone in Ohio.

What This Might Look Like For You

You might be dealing with perinatal mental health challenges if you’re experiencing:

  • Anxiety that feels relentless: racing thoughts, constant worry about your baby, fear that something terrible is about to happen

  • Rage or irritability that catches you off guard: snapping, yelling, feeling like you’re losing control

  • A sadness or emptiness that doesn’t lift, even on the good days

  • Feeling detached from your baby, your partner, or yourself

  • Intrusive or scary thoughts that you’re afraid to say out loud

  • Grief for the birth experience you didn’t get, the pregnancy you lost, the version of yourself that existed before

  • A deep sense that you’ve lost who you were, and aren’t sure how to find her again

  • The feeling that everyone else is handling this better than you are

  • Struggling in silence because asking for help feels like admitting you can’t do this

If any of that sounds familiar, you’re not broken. You’re not a bad mother. You’re someone who needs and deserves real support.

What Is Perinatal Mental Health And Why Does It Matter?

Perinatal mental health refers to your emotional and psychological wellbeing during pregnancy and the postpartum period, which can extend well beyond the first few weeks after birth. Research shows that perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) affect up to 1 in 5 mothers and a significant number of partners. They are the most common complication of pregnancy and the postpartum period.

And yet, most people never hear the word “PMAD” until they’re already in the middle of one.

PMADs include postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, postpartum rage, postpartum OCD, birth trauma, and postpartum psychosis. They don’t always look like what you see in the pamphlets. Sometimes it’s not sadness. Sometimes it’s anger. Sometimes it’s just a persistent feeling that something is wrong, even when you can’t name it.

Who I Work With

Perinatal mental health support isn’t only for new moms. I work with:

Moms and Birthing People

Whether this is your first pregnancy or your fourth, whether you’re in the thick of the first trimester or two years postpartum, your experience matters. I work with people at every stage of the perinatal journey.

Partners and Fathers

Partners struggle too. The pressure to hold it together, to be the steady one, to push your own needs aside, it adds up. Postpartum depression and anxiety affect a significant number of fathers and non-birthing partners, and it often goes completely unrecognized. You deserve support too, not just coaching on how to better support someone else.

LGBTQIA+ Families

Beyond the Bump Counseling is an affirming, inclusive space. The perinatal experience looks different for every family, and I’m here to meet yours where it actually is.

What Perinatal Therapy With Me Actually Looks Like

Sessions are held virtually, which means you can show up from your couch, your car, or wherever you can carve out 50 minutes. No commute. No waiting room. No need to find a babysitter just to talk about how hard it is to be a parent.

My approach is direct and relational. I’m not going to sit quietly and nod while you talk into the void. I’m going to be present with you, reflect back what I’m hearing, and help you actually figure out what’s going on and what to do about it.

We’ll work on understanding what you’re experiencing, why it’s happening, and how to start feeling more like yourself again. Not a perfect version of yourself. Just yourself.

You Don’t Have to Be at Rock Bottom to Reach Out

One of the biggest barriers to getting support is the feeling that you’re not struggling ‘enough.’ That other people have it worse. That you should be able to handle this.

You don’t need a diagnosis to deserve therapy. You don’t need to be in crisis. You just need to be a person who is carrying something heavy and could use some help setting it down.

If you’re in Ohio and you’re wondering whether therapy might help, that question alone is worth exploring. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can get a feel for whether this is the right fit before committing to anything.

Ready to Take the Next Step

Reaching out is the hardest part. If you’re reading this and something is resonating, trust that. You can schedule a free consultation, send a message through the contact page, or just sit with this a little longer. I’ll be here when you’re ready.
